The synergy between IFP School and IFP Energies nouvelles (IFPEN) research divisions, in addition to the doctoral theses, concerns teaching, software use and access to the research laboratories.
Teachers
With some hundred IFPEN researchers involved in IFP School master's programs, students raise their awareness of the latest technological advances in research into technical areas relating to hydrocarbons and engines as well as new energy technologies.
Researchers’ participation in IFP School teaching extends to field trips that are a part of certain programs, in particular in the geosciences.
Softwares
Many software programs developed by IFPEN are used by faculty and students at the School for supervised classwork and practical exercises:
- Georessources and Energy :
- stratigraphic modelling, sedimentary basins modelling and reservoir characterization and simulation : software DionisiosFlow, TemisFlow, EasyTrace, Interwell, FracaFlow;
- other standard software for various activities related to georesources development projects are also used, such as Petrel, Eclipse, Suite Petroleum Experts Limited (MBAL, PROSPER, GAP), Saphir, Carbone, OLGA, HYSIS, Questor, etc.
- Processes for Energy and Chemicals:
- design and dimensioning of steady state processes: Pro2, Aspen, HYSIS, HTRI, Simulis Thermodynamics;
- dynamic process control: simulators Corys (distillation columns and industrial furnaces);
- simulations of equipment shutdown and start-up phases in virtual reality: pumps, turbines, etc.
- Powertrains and sustainable mobility:
- Amesim, a system modeling software program produced in partnership with Siemens (Librairies IFPEN HOT and Drive)

Laboratories
A number of practical exercises require heavy R&I resources:
- engine test benches, a vehicle rolling road test bench, and an engine part dimensioning and metrology laboratory
- laboratories of applied chemistry and physico-chemistry (displacement loop and rheometers)
