Context
The adaptation of our energy systems to climate and environmental issues raises many new challenges and problems. Today more than ever, research-innovation is called upon to play a crucial role: by affecting the future of technological trajectories, by transforming the economy of energy sectors and by informing the choices of public and private actors, it shapes the world to come.
Aware of these challenges, IFP School wanted to expand its actions in this area by setting up teaching and research chairs in 2008, designed in collaboration with industrial partners (patrons).
Objectives
- First of all, these Chairs boost the scientific environment of the school. By enabling it to undertake ambitious research work on innovative themes, they play an essential role in increasing the institution's scientific influence and enabling it to comply with the highest international academic standards.
- Secondly, the work carried out in the Chairs is intended to inform the content of the training courses offered by the school. The Chairs make it possible to develop the teaching of promising themes and thus to equip students with new skills and knowledge that will help them during their future careers.
- Finally, these Chairs stimulate exchanges between academia and industrial experts. By establishing a regular and structured dialogue around common objectives, they promote a cross-fertilization of knowledge and constitute the ideal support for the development of partnership research that is both scientifically ambitious and mutually beneficial.
How it works
Each IFP School Chair is structured around a program of initiatives led by a renowned researcher (the Chairholder) and a team composed of associate researchers, doctoral candidates and/or post-doctoral fellows.
By becoming a sponsor, a partner undertakes to provide predictable financial support (over an initial period of 3 to 5 years, renewable) that enables the Chair to carry out its research and training projects. The establishment of the Chair involves the Tuck Foundation, which is responsible for ensuring that the results obtained are public and that the Chair's activity contributes to the production and dissemination of new knowledge in accordance with international academic standards.

The Chairs proposed at the School cover all the fields covered by the training courses offered at IFP School: geosciences, chemical engineering, energy, vehicle and propulsion systems engineering, economics, environmental sciences, modelling, carbon management, etc.
