Dr. Jeremy M. Eckhause from the RAND Corporation visited IFP School on March 31, April 1, and April 8, 2022.
During his visit, he gave a set of lectures entitled "Employing Real Options to Mitigate Risk in Energy Investment Decisions" to the graduate students enrolled in the Energy and Markets program. He provided an overview on real options solutions techniques, including how to model certain problems (e.g., as Markov decision processes). His lectures also covered some of his recent research applied to optimizing funding strategies for carbon capture initiatives in the EU and the US. They helped increase students’ awareness of the utility of real options models to evaluate optimal funding strategies of large, technologically uncertain projects.
Dr. Eckhause has over 20 years of experience developping mathematical optimization models to a variety of applications of interest for transportation, government, and defense agencies in the United States. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Science in Operations Research from Princeton University and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland.
Founded in 1948, the RAND Corporation is a nonprofit institution that helps improve policy and decision-making through research and analysis.
